Benefits of Our Psychological Assessments

Our reports offer clear, clinically-informed insights into a client’s mental health, cognitive functioning, and behavioural patterns. They are commonly used to:

  • Support bail applications

  • Demonstrate a client’s engagement in treatment and readiness for change

  • Inform sentencing submissions

  • Highlight mitigating psychological or environmental factors

  • Guide rehabilitation planning

Clinical Expertise and Credibility

All assessments are conducted by experienced and fully registered psychologists, with backgrounds in forensic, clinical, and rehabilitation settings. Our reports are frequently relied upon in courtrooms across Australia due to their accuracy, clarity, and relevance. We use validated tools, structured clinical interviews, and a trauma-informed approach to ensure every report is both clinically sound and legally appropriate. Courts and legal professionals trust our assessments to provide meaningful context around a client’s psychological history, current presentation, and capacity for change.

Section 14 Applications

Under Section 14 of the Mental Health and Cognitive Impairment Forensic Provisions Act 2020 (NSW), magistrates can dismiss charges where a person has a mental health or cognitive impairment, allowing for treatment instead of a criminal conviction. At Mindwell Academy, we provide psychological assessments to support Section 14 applications, but only where our registered psychologists determine that the individual meets the clinical criteria. Each assessment is based on a professional evaluation to ensure the application is both appropriate and ethically supported.

Our psychological assessment reports play a crucial role in supporting Section 14 applications by:

  • Providing a comprehensive evaluation of the individual's mental health or cognitive impairment.

  • Outlining a tailored treatment or support plan, which may include therapy, medication management, and regular consultations with mental health professionals.

  • Offering evidence-based recommendations to assist the court in determining the appropriateness of diverting the individual from the criminal justice system into treatment.
